<itunes:summary>Seed Seller Training Radio -
The number of farmers that still want to split their planters continues to amaze me.

They put one seed variety in half the boxes and another variety in the other half so they can plant them simultaneously to compare and eventually decide which one is the superior product.

Many growers think by splitting their planters they can learn so much—almost like having their very own research plot.

But nothing could be further from the truth.

Instead of learning more about each variety, growers actually continue to distort the facts.

Anytime the weather causes a delay in the planting season, it causes farmers and seed sellers alike to get nervous, anxious, excited, and panicked all rolled into one.
As a result, many times logical thinking gets thrown out the window in place of a "Get-R-Done" mentality and the farmer attempts to plant his crop no matter what the cost.
While that is certainly a natural and common feeling, it has to be one that you, the Seed Seller, keeps in-check.
After all, the Number One Factor to Producing a Top Crop is Soil Conditions at Planting...not planting date. (Find out the other 4 by watching this video here)

But there are going to be times when you must take a strong stand on this "planting panic attack."
If you don't do something now, then you are only asking for a record number of Trouble Calls later in the growing season.
This spring reminds me a lot of a Trouble Call I experienced personally a few years back when I had a good customer who was so focused on getting his crop planted that he was about to commit "Crop Suicide" and my company's products were going to be his victim.

On this particular day, I knew my message was not going to be well-received by our customer, but I had to pick a fight in hopes of saving his crop and, ultimately, our relationship.

 <itunes:summary>Seed Seller Training Radio -
The most common question I got from virtually every farmer this past sales season was...
Will there be enough seed this year?
My response was always the same.

There will be enough seed if every farmer takes ownership of the seed he ordered and does not pad his order.

I've said before that I have yet to talk with a seed corn company that doesn't have an increase in sales this year.

The problem with that is there are not enough acres to plant all of that seed.
So the question is:
Have your customers taken ownership of their seed?

Who Owns Your Precious Seed In a Seed Shortage Year?

<itunes:summary>How To Win the Seed Sales Race!
Why would any seed sales reps give their competitor an advantage in this brutal marketplace?

Why would any seed sales reps allow their competitor free access to their entire reservoir of new customers and prospects, without even a bit of resistance?

And why would a seed seller risk losing customers by giving the competition time to call on his or her current customers?

In this episode of SeedSeller Training Radio, I talk about how giving the competition any kind of advantage or head-start is a silly way to run a seed business or a sales territory.

But, unfortunately, it happens all the time and very few people who work in this industry seem to care.
